About this data
This dataset contains data on government, private and expenditure on educational institutions. Government expenditure can be brokendown by central, regional (state) and local levels of government. Private sector can also be brokendown by households and other non-educational private sector. Expenditure are reported after transfers between entities, transfers can be from higher to lower levels of government, from the government to the private sector, or from non-domestic source to the government. The default table displays expenditure for the general government, the private sector and non-domestic sources in 2020 constant USD PPP (top section), in percentage of GDP (middle section), and in percentage (distribution by sector, in the bottom section), for the combined primary to tertiary levels of education, and for all public and private educational institutions. This can be changed to display data by: level of education, type of educational institution, level of financing source, local currency/USD PPP, and current/constant prices. Please note that the filters are inter related, meaning that selection in one category may impact the possibility to select options in another category. Please note that non-domestic expenditure is labelled "Rest of the world". Data for the latest available year are preliminary. Final data will be released on 29 September 2026.
